Traditional Bow Hunts

Over the many years that I’ve operated bow hunts for Whitetails, it became apparent that considering where most of my clients came from or did their hunting, they really didn’t stand much of a chance back home to see a really solid mature deer on a yearly basis – that being a 4-5 yr old buck minimum that could have grown 150”+ to 160+” set of antlers.

I felt I had a virtual utopia for big deer and a place that some dedicated hunters could call their Whitetail hunting home. Being that I have virtually zero bowhunting pressure, along with large tracts of incredible habitat to allow bucks to grow to the older ages of say 5-8 years old. This allows for bucks to maximize skeletal growth and realize the potential of their genetics given to them here, to grow these incredible racks.

The bucks we hunt are not small woodlot or open country deer with few area choices for both their home core habitat, along with the areas they may inhabit to intercept doe activity. My areas are big, and have either essentially ‘bush’ deer, or a semi agricultural bush deer with 50/50 cover/agriculture for where they live. Any particular mature buck, can be in any number of areas at any given time here – not ‘pinched’ between people and their activities, types of land and cover or actual hunting pressure.

You’ll be hunting in the land of giants…your chance of getting a buck in close is directly related to the diligent quality sits you put in, and the time spent on stand.

In general, the setups and tactics that I employ during the late October pre-rut timeframe are centered around the doe activity. The bucks at this time have relocated from their summer areas, and are busy laying down sign during the late fall in the areas that the does inhabit.

My tree stand setups are in place in high interaction areas to intercept movement through these areas, or are in what I call ‘cut off points’, to intercept a buck as he transits from perhaps one doe group area to another.

It’s a hunt for an experienced tradbow hunter, adept at climbing into and sitting tree stands. We employ ‘all day sits’ getting into stand before daylight starts, and we hunt hard and sit all day in these areas, rattling and grunting periodically throughout the hunt day. I’ve had many guys over the years hunt all day for 6/8/10…or even 12 days. Being upfront and honest, it’s not for everyone, but it’s an incredible experience to have a world class deer in close! Let’s talk if you’d like to try a different approach to getting an arrow into a buck of a lifetime.

This hunt is about hunting - patiently waiting out natural deer movement in natural environments. A bit of a throwback to times past I know, but to be honest, I’m a bit of a throwback to times past! You won’t be sitting over bait stations or feeders, you’ll be sitting waiting to ambush or calling in bucks that I have to hunt.

I do my best to prepare and get you ready for this hunt, along with having you talk with previous hunters that have done my hunts many times over the years. They’ve done it and lived it. They know what works, what doesn’t, what’s necessary, and what isn’t! There’s nothing more gratifying for me as a Guide and hunt operator, to see the look on a hunters face and hear their story when they’ve had the biggest deer of their lives within bow range.

This hunt is not for everyone, but it’s an incredible place for a select few, dedicated to their passionate pursuit of the worlds greatest game animal - the mature Whitetail buck.” - DB.

Longtime, hardcore Whitetail hunter - Dave Sanders, had put in many hours on his many sits in stand here. He took some nice deer over the almost 20 years together, and was in camp when other did. He’ll be missed during our fall hunts. - DB.

Why a Traditional bow only hunt? Just simply something I’ve wanted to do in my career. I have taken compounders for many years and consider many of them friends. I’ve had some great hunts and put some tremendous bucks in front of them over the years, but being a 30 year traditional bowhunter myself and having so many trad hunters over the years, having a camp centering around ‘like mindedness’ and value sets that align more so in the Trad community and their hunting pursuits led me in this direction. - DB.
