November Rifle Rut Hunts
If a dedicated year round approach to your hunt preparation, along with a small camp atmosphere for a select few is of interest to you and your Whitetail pursuits, please read on. But, this hunt is not for everyone though, simple fact. Not a slight to anyone, just pure honesty. I’ll be the first to note that, because it can be a tough hunt. Tough on your mind and tough on your body. I say ‘can be’, because anyone deciding to hunt with me has to be prepared for the tough and not easy. Not all hunts have tough conditions though, some years and some hunts are easier than others, but one should always be in the mindset of ‘not easy’.
As my career has evolved over the almost 40 seasons in this business, I’ve worked very hard to have hunters achieve in a hunt and harvest of a buck that they felt was worthy to take. As maybe the 140”- 160” inch deer fell, and they wanted to harvest a progressively older and larger antlered buck, the stair step approach for some became the goal. For some, just being able to hunt the biggest bodied subspecies of Whitetails in North America each year makes their trip – regardless of the buck they end up seeing or taking. The list of individuals that have come back with me to hunt 10 + years is long. Many are in their 16-18 + years of us hunting together. A few now are even in their 20+ and 25+ seasons. They are truly living testimonials to the hunts I’ve tried to provide.
This hunt is about hunting - patiently waiting out natural deer movement in natural environments. A bit of a throwback to times past I know, but let’s be honest, I’m a bit of a throwback to times past! You won’t be sitting over bait stations or feeders, you’ll be sitting waiting to ambush or calling in bucks that I have to hunt.
Quality hardcore dedication to your time spent on stand, plus the number of sits per stand you put in is a key factor in your ability to see one of these solid mature bucks. We employ Texas Style Tripods as the main hunt choice for sitting (and possibly a ground blind location on a very rare occasion). I do my best to prepare you for the hunt, along with have you talk with some hunters that have hunted here over the years. ‘Mindset’ is a very important component for this hunt, along with an ability to ‘embrace the challenge’ for sitting long hours in areas of ‘low deer density’ - this ain’t Texas sitting watching a feeder”!

“I take very seriously the decision for a hunter to choose to hunt with me, and the preparation I put into a given year of scouting, is usually directly related to producing an opportunity on a shooter class buck for a hunter” - DB.
